I forbindelse med Taastrupgaards omdannelse - der er en konsekvens af parallelsamfundspakken – er der ingen genhusningsplan for vegetationen.
Derfor værksatte vi en redningsaktion for planter, buske og træer fra beboeres private haver. De er sat i indslag i Tingstedets kommende fælleshave, hvor de udplantes til foråret.

Seven nomadic structures and a timeline of the Plečnik Stadium history are exhibited at MAO – Museum of Architecture and Design, together with a recording of the Stadium NOWHERE Walk in the city of Ljubljana.

Stadium NOWHERE unfolds the history of the Plečnik Stadium - a place unable to adapt to new demands. It´s  a collaborative creation of a situation in the shape of seven nomadic structures, visualized, built and carried into the city to interact with  public and the static buildings of Jože Plečnik.

The project produces a response no one has asked for to learn about society and its mechanisms. The current dispute around the redevelopment of the Stadium asks general questions about collective behaviour, rationales and ideals of society. Earlier, political systems and strong ideologies made dialogue difficult because of polarization and the determinate solutions embedded in these ideologies. With today’s complex reality a dialogue that comes before political decisions is fundamental.

Stadium NOWHERE is an architectural research by Danish architect Gitte Juul in collaboration with architectural students from the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Architecture.

The majority of Plečniks works in Ljubljana are timeless, still in use and having survived big changes in society without loosing their integrity. But not the Stadium. It has been abandoned and fenced off since 2007, unable to adapt to new demands. It is torn between different planning interests, cultural heritage values, understandings of the law and blame for the blocked situation. Local citizens are fighting for their piece of land and for the protection of the Stadium in its original form, whereas an investor wants to update the Stadium to new commercial standards. Between these two opposites, the Institute of Cultural Heritage Protection is positioned and expected to protect the work of Jože Plečnik, since the Stadium got status as a monument of National Importance. While the conflict continues the Stadium is left alone, unable to adapt.

Stadium NOWHERE is portraying history as an observation of both “historical moments” and everyday occurrences. Architectural visions, religious ceremonies, military ceremonies, sporting events, commercialization, cultural heritage issues and environmental/ neighbourhood issues are experienced via seven physical structures, created by architectural students:
- House of Landscape is an enclosed space visualizing the Stadium as a loop beginning in a gravel pit and going back to nature.
- House of Architecture & Urbanism presents the Stadiums connection to Plečniks plan for Ljubljana as a “New Athens”.
- House of Religion is bringing the religion out of the institution and onto the street – like a small Chapel.
- House of Military tells the story of how the Stadium was used as a backdrop for political ideologies.
- House of Sports & Commercialization sees the Stadium from the view of the spectator.
- House of Conflict shows a model of the Stadium built of elements, the visualizations of the investors project for the Stadium renovation and documents the five reasons why the Local Initiative is against the proposal.
- House of Nature is an open wall structure showing a herbarium of the wild plants growing at the Stadium and cultivated plants from the Fond Gardens on the other side of the Stadium Wall.

In order to explore the history of the stadium as a participatory experience, the project Stadium NOWHERE grew out of  meetings and discussions with people and organisations directly involved in the conflict and it aimed to admit all the complexities of the encounters into the working process. I decided upon seven different aspects relating to the history of the stadium, which I then gave to the students and invited them to design and build seven nomadic physical structures from their own interpretation of history.

Streetkitchen_Kolkata er et bærbart Tehus – en blanding mellem et hus, et spisebord og en gadesælgervogn – og en potentiel, spredt have med spiselige planter. Projektet blev udviklet på eget initiativ og udført i storbyen Kolkata i Indien i samarbejde med lokale gadehandlere, håndværkere og billedkunstner Anja Franke. Projektet udforskede traditionelle håndværk, materialer, botanik, genstande, byen, de politiske-og økonomiske systemer, – og ikke mindst menneskene og handlingerne bag. Ler, bambus, plantefrø, kopper, genbrugt spisestel fra Danmark og en bærbar bod blev sat i nye sammenhænge med håndværkere og gadesælgere for at udfordre relationerne mellem byens formelle og uformelle rum og aktiviteter. Projektet blev efterfølgende installeret på Goethe Instituttet i Kolkata.

Streetkitchen_Kolkata er støttet af Dreyers Fond og Esther & Jep Finks Fond for Arkitektur og Kunsthåndværk. Lokal koordinator: Dev Nayak. Assistenter: studerende Michael Lynge Jensen og Desislava Mincheva.

Streetkitchen_Kolkata undersøgte muligheden for at skabe en form for kontinuerligt byrum ved at folde gadens formelle og uformelle systemer ind i et symbiotisk forhold gennem en midlertidig intervention i den sydlige del af Kolkata. Projektet samarbejdede med en butik og med gadesælgere på samme tid og til dette formål blev tre elementer udviklet, udvalgt og indsat i en installation på gaden. Installationen bestod af Palki – en lokalt bygget bambus struktur udformet som en fysisk ramme for Flora Indica Clay Cups og Anja Frankes projekt Waste Service. Flora Indica Clay Cups er et nyt lerstel, baseret på Kolkatas traditionelle ler tekopper, skabt i samarbejde med en lokal pottemager. Som en hyldest til de botaniske Roxburgh Icons ”Flora Indica”, blev frø fra indiske planter anvendt til at skabe et ”frøstempel” på den velkendte ler kop. Plantefrø er integreret i koppedesignet og når kopperne kastes til jorden efter brug, skabes mulighed for at en plante kan vokse op på stedet, når regnen kommer. Waste Service er en ny kollektion af aflagt porcelæn, indsamlet fra danske hjem og dekoreret med et nyt blåt mønster kaldet Waste Time. Waste Service blev udvalgt til at deltage i Streetkitchen_Kolkata, fordi det beskæftiger sig med spørgsmålene om arv, spild og en produktion der kræver direkte deltagelse af et lokalområde.

Flora Indica Clay Cups is a pottery created for the projekt Streetkitchen_Kolkata in 2013. It was produced in collaboration with a local clay cup maker in Kolkata as a counterpart to the exclusive danish dinnerware Flora Danica by Royal Copenhagen. Seeds from native indian plants were used for making a seedstamp on ordinary clay cups in order to make it possible for a future random garden to grow in the city on locations where chai customers throw their used Flora Indica Clay Cup.

During the period of British India, there were two different worlds in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Being colonial headquarter, the city operated under different rules and therefore spaces of the city were used differently, whilst trying to maximize control and minimize conflict between opposing worlds. Today opposite and conflicting worlds share the same space, but they still use it differently. Before the colonization tea was a privilege only for wealthy people, since it was an expensive, imported product from China. During colonial time The Indian Tea was discovered and became the major export product for East India Company. At the same time Indian chai became a common drink for every Indian.

The cups are made of clay, excavated from the buttom of the river, The clay are turned into cups and tried in the sun. For generations Chai wallahs has sold their chai in the little clay cups, which are thrown to the ground as soon as the chai has been drunken. This action testify the presence of Indias many hands for production, but at the same time it shows the traditional class distinction, where people from the low casts earlier on were not allowed to come into contact with people from a higher cast. Today all indians participate in this ritual many times every day

William Roxburgh was superintendent at The Botanical Garden in Calcutta in the period 1789-1813. Under Roxburgh the Botanical Garden developed as a centre for knowledge. Plant collectors throughout India would send their discoveries to Calcutta for identification, and visitors could be instructed in the latest systems of taxonomy. When going back to Europe, Roxburgh left a set of lifesized handpainted original drawings with botanical dissections of 2.542 plants, wherein almost all of the indian species he described in the book ”Flora Indica”, is to be found among these drawings.

The random garden will consist of Curcurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) and Foeniculum Vulgare (Fennel) from Roxburgh’s Icons, the “Flora Indica”. Coriandrum Sativum was photographed at New Market in Kolkata, since Coriander was not a native plant to India at Roxburgh’s time.

Gadekøkken_Kättilsmåla er en spiselig have med et bærbart Spisehus – en blanding mellem et hus, et spisebord og en gadesælgervogn. Projektet blev udviklet på eget initiativ og udført i landsbyen Kättilsmåla i Sverige i samarbejde med den lokale Interesseforening. Projektet udfordrede den private ejendomsret i forsøget på at øge skalaen af landsbyens fælles rum.

Landsbyer har arealer, hvis ejerforhold det kan være vanskeligt at identificere. Gårdejerne kan eje mark, skov og søer, som kan ligge spredt rundt i lokalområdet. Vejkrydset med landsbyens busstoppested, postkasse og infotavle er privatejet, men bliver blot anvendt til sporadisk opbevaring af entreprenørredskaber. Ejeren henvendte sig flere gange for at få opklaret, hvorfor jeg havde interesse i hans jordstykke, og spurgte, hvornår og hvordan jeg havde tænkt mig at sælge det, der voksede op. Tanken var ikke at sælge noget, men at give værdi tilbage til et sted, som engang var et samlingspunkt, men med tiden blot var blevet et trekantet stykke jord, som bussen kører rundt om på sin vej ud af landsbyen igen. Stedet havde potentiale til at blive et nyt samlingssted for landsbyens beboere.

Jeg fik lov til at låne jordstykket fra maj til november og begyndte at invitere folk i lokalområdet til at deltage i projektet. En gårdejer kom med sine store maskiner og skiftede jord på grunden. En brændesælger lagde flis ud. En håndværker donerede en vandtank, han havde til overs fra en byggeplads. En kvinde der tidligere havde arbejdet i Danmark virkede som tolk i forhold til kommunikation med pressen. Beboere var med til at så og luge. Byens spillemænd spillede harmonika til åbningsoptoget gennem byen. Nogle kunne synge, andre kunne danse. Folk bidrog med det de var gode til hver især.

Forhenværende lanthandel og vejkryds med busstoppested, lygtepæl, postkasse, informationstavle og to skyggende træer.

Gammel jord blev kørt væk og ny jord lagt på. Flis blev lagt ud som stier til at gå på. Haveplanen blev tegnet op med kalk og en vandbeholder blev opsat.

En spiselig have blev anlagt på trekantsgrunden. De huse der ligger rundt om haven, skiftedes til at fylde vandtanken op.

Informationstavlen viste en oversigt over havens flora.

Spisehuset blev bygget på landsbyens Bygdegård og båret i procession til haven gennem landsbyen.

Glas, tallerkener, gasflaske, vanddunk, mad, drikke og landsbyens spillemænd ventede på optoget.

Spisehuset blev taget i brug – Gadekøkken_Kättilsmåla var etableret.

I november blev Spisehuset transporteret tilbage til Bygdegården for at overvintre. I fremtiden kan det vandre rundt i landsbyen og placeres hvor der er brug for det.

Det første man må gøre, når man omgiver sig med et forladt sted, er at bygge sig en hytte hvor man kan trække sig tilbage for at spise og sove i fred for dyr og kulde.  Hus i Vater og Lod er en sådan ‘hytte’; – et ‘hus i Møllen, indspændt mellem etagebjælker og hanebånd i en tidligere  vandmølle i Blekinge, som har stået forladt siden slutningen af 1950erne.

Vægelementer er opbygget liggende af fabriksfremstillede I-bjælker og krydsfinér og  derefter rejst manuelt.

Vægge og loft består af I-bjælker, krydsfinér plader og højisolerende træfiber bats.

De indvendige krydsfinér flader er kalket med kærnemælksmaling.

Hus i Vater og Lod danner loft til et udendørs rum på grundniveau.

Hus i Vater og Lod er malet  Falurød på alle sider, for at indikere at det er et ‘hus i huset’. Falurød er RGB 128, 24, 24 – et traditionelt pigment udvundet som genbrug af silikater fra jernoxid fra Falu kobberminen.

Hus i Vater og Lod er bygget i samarbejde med Søren Brink og lokal tømrer Gunnar Larsen.

Møllen ligger på kanten af Lyckeby åen i Blekinge uden fysiske matrikelskel og i et landskab i konstant forandring afhængig af vandstrømme og vindforhold.

En auktion i Karlskrona førte til overtagelse af Møllen, som havde ringe markedsefterspørgsel. Vandmøllen gik ud af drift i 1957 og siden har landskabet omkring bygningerne ændret sig drastisk. Stendæmningen, der tidligere kontrollerede et vandfald på 2,2 meter, er styrtet sammen og har dannet nye formationer og øer, som er sprunget i skov. 

Møllen blev købt på auktion, efter selve bygningen blev erklæret værdiløs. Denne erklæring frisatte Møllen fra bedømmelse og investeringsobjektificering. Ved at undslippe ejendomsspekulation, er Møllen blevet en ligeværdig, ikke-menneskelig, aktiv aktør, der evner at påvirke  og blive påvirket.

Sommetider støder man ind i ting, steder og situationer, hvor muligheden for at gøre noget er til stede. Det er i de små sprækker i systemerne, hvor man kan se sit snit til at kile sig ind og være med i kredsløbet. Økonomisk, ressourcemæssigt og idémæssigt. Det som er blevet forladt er ikke ubrugeligt. Vi skal blot finde den nye brugbarhed.

Den gamle bygning giver rumlige muligheder, der skabes over tid med fokus på et maksimalt nærvær og en minimal økonomi. At bruge tid med ’Møllen’ skærper evnen til at praktisere rumlige og eksistentielle forbindelser mellem arkitektur, socialitet og økologi. Fra menneskekrop til lokalitetens økologi – med de levende organismers levesteder og den gensidige påvirkning mellem de levende væsner og miljøet - og bygningens indlejrede teknikker, viden og organisering.
